Sit, Walk, Stand: Conduct Of A Child Of God {Sunday, June 28, 2015}

By Gracie Adamek

It’s easy to memorize things. We’ve been doing it since we were young. The average American sits in a classroom for 12 years being taught to commit dates and events to memory and then some go on for years after that to continue to do the same thing. As Christians, I think it’s easy for us to fall into that same mentality.

I grew up in the church, so for as long as I can remember people have been telling me how important it is to memorize Scripture because it will come in handy one day. As true as that is, memorizing Scripture takes a backseat to living it out.

James 2:26 says “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.” We cannot claim to love God and not play by His rules. We can know the entire Bible inside and out but if we never do anything with what we’ve learned, if we never apply it to our lives, it doesn’t matter. Nothing that we can learn compares to a life so obviously filled with the Holy Spirit.

As Pastor Joe said in his sermon, “All of the doctrine in the world, if it’s not applied to your life, is worthless.”

Learning Scripture is vital, but if it’s not internalized and applied, there is no point. Whom do we help if we keep God’s words in our heads? Who gets to see Christ if no one can see Him in us? No one benefits if we keep Him to ourselves.

As Christians we are supposed to model our lives like Jesus’. Jesus could recite Scripture at the drop of a hat, He often did, but one of the reasons why He was so influential with the people of His time is because of His actions.

So let’s be like Jesus, shall we? Let’s live it out. Don’t just learn Scripture, live it.
